Start with the web app
Open PrayLight Prayer from the app directory. You can read prayers and Scripture and set up your personal rhythm without creating a church account. Sanctuary is a separate church-community app with its own sign-in process.
Start with one prayer moment that fits your day. A reminder can be useful, but you do not need to enable notifications to use the prayer content. Read the prayer first, then decide whether an extra prompt would help you return to it.
Add PrayLight to your iPhone Home Screen
On iPhone or iPad, open the prayer app in Safari. Open the Share menu and choose Add to Home Screen. Depending on your device version, you may need to scroll through the actions. Confirm the name and open PrayLight from the new icon.
Home Screen installation makes the app easier to return to. Web push on iPhone requires iOS 16.4 or later, an installed Home Screen web app, and notification permission. If reminders are unavailable, check the device version and whether you opened the installed app rather than only a browser tab.
Choose browser access or the Android test APK
Android users can also open the web app directly. The PrayLight homepage links to an Android test APK for people who want to try the native build. An APK is an Android installation file; it is not an iPhone download.
The download is labelled as a test build because the app is still being developed. Use the download linked from PrayLight and follow your device’s installation prompts. If you prefer not to install a test build, the browser app remains available.
Understand reminders and wake alarms
A web notification is not a guaranteed alarm. Its arrival can depend on permission, connectivity, operating-system settings, and device restrictions. Try a reminder while you are awake and confirm that it behaves as expected on your phone.
Native wake alarms belong to the Android app. On iPhone, use the built-in Clock app for waking up and use PrayLight for prayer when you are awake. Do not rely on a browser reminder for a time-critical wake-up.
Know what stays on your device
Prayer preferences and progress are stored locally by the web app. They do not automatically follow you to another phone or browser. Clearing site data or using a temporary browsing session can remove saved settings.
If you enable web push, the service needs a push subscription and delivery settings to send reminders. You can manage notifications through the app and your device settings. Read the linked privacy and data information for the distinction between local prayer data and church-account content.
