How to Make Clear Sermon Slides with GraceSlides

Clear sermon slides give people a place to focus. Start with the Bible passage, keep one idea on each slide, and check the presentation on the screen your church will actually use.

Plan the message before choosing a theme

Write the passage reference, the central idea, and the question you want people to consider. These three items provide a useful outline for a short sermon presentation. The slides should follow the teaching rather than determine its shape.

For a Bible study on Psalm 23, an opening slide could name the passage, a second could show a short section of the Psalm, and the next could ask what the shepherd image tells us about God’s care. Keep your full teaching notes separate so the screen remains easy to read.

Give each slide one job

Use a title slide to introduce the passage, a Scripture slide for the words you are reading, and a sermon-point slide for the idea you are explaining. GraceSlides offers layouts for Scripture, sermon points, worship lyrics, and closing prayer. Choose the layout that fits what the group needs to see.

Split long passages across several slides at natural sentence boundaries. Include the reference and Bible translation so people can find the passage themselves. A slide full of small text asks people to read and listen at the same time; a short quotation gives both activities room.

Check contrast and text size in the room

Use a clear contrast between the background and the words. Avoid placing essential text over a busy photograph. A decorative font that looks attractive on a laptop may be difficult to read across a church hall.

There is no font size that works for every projector and room. Present your slides on the intended display and read them from the back row. Check line breaks, margins, and whether a Scripture quotation is clipped. If it does not fit comfortably, shorten the slide or divide it instead of shrinking all the text.

Save locally and keep an exported backup

GraceSlides saves your deck in the browser you use to edit it. Local saving is convenient, but it is not the same as an account-based cloud library. Clearing browser data, switching browsers, or using another device can leave you without that saved copy.

Use the File menu to export a backup of the deck. Keep that file somewhere you can find it again, and test importing it before relying on a second device. If another volunteer will present, give them the exported deck in advance and ask them to open it on the actual presentation computer.

Rehearse the complete presentation

Move through the slides in presentation mode, including any opening or closing material. Check that the order matches your notes, the next-slide controls work, and the final prayer is easy to read. Allow a little time before the gathering to connect the display.

A simple preparation checklist is enough: correct passage, clear reference, one main idea per slide, readable contrast, exported backup, and a rehearsal on the target screen. The purpose is to help people follow Scripture and take part in the teaching.
